This policy explains what personal data ex-display.co.uk collects, how we use and protect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. Please read it carefully.
1. About this policy
This privacy policy explains how ex-display.co.uk (the "Site") collects, uses and protects your personal data, and your rights over it. The Site is a UK online marketplace and directory for ex-display, ex-demo and clearance stock. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Ex-Display Marketplace, the owner and operator of ex-display.co.uk and the data controller responsible for your personal data.
We take your privacy seriously and handle personal data in line with UK data protection law, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. If you have any questions, contact us at support@ex-display.co.uk.
2. Definitions
- Personal data: any information that identifies you or can be linked to you.
- Processing: anything we do with personal data, such as collecting, storing, using or sharing it.
- Cookies: small text files placed on your device that help a website work and remember information about your visit.
- UK GDPR: the UK General Data Protection Regulation, the main data protection law that applies to us.
3. The data we collect
Data you give us:
- Seller account details, such as your name, email address, password and shop information, if you register to sell.
- The information you enter if you contact us or use a form, such as your name, email address and message.
Data we collect automatically:
- Technical and usage data, such as your IP address, device and browser type, the pages you view, and how you reached and moved around the Site. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies, described below.
We do not process payments and do not collect payment card details. Purchases happen on the seller's own website.
4. How we use your data
We use personal data to:
- run the Site and display listings;
- set up and manage seller accounts and shops;
- respond to your enquiries and provide support;
- keep the Site secure and prevent spam and abuse;
- understand how the Site is used so we can improve it;
- show advertising that helps keep the Site free to use; and
- meet our legal obligations.
5. Our legal bases
Under UK GDPR we rely on the following legal bases:
- Consent: for non-essential cookies, analytics and advertising, which you can give or withdraw through our cookie consent tool.
- Contract: to provide and manage seller accounts and services you ask for.
- Legitimate interests: to run, secure and improve the Site, where your rights do not override those interests.
- Legal obligation: where we must process data to comply with the law.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
We and our partners use cookies and similar technologies to make the Site work, to measure how it is used, and to support advertising. They fall into three broad groups:
- Strictly necessary: needed for the Site to function, for example security and session cookies. These do not need consent.
- Analytics: help us understand how the Site is used so we can improve it.
- Advertising: used by us and advertising partners to show and measure ads.
When you first visit, our consent tool lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies, and you can change your choice at any time through that tool or your browser settings. Rejecting non-essential cookies will not stop you browsing the Site.
7. Third-party services we use
The Site uses trusted third-party services that may process some data, mainly through cookies, in line with your consent choices:
- Google: Google Tag Manager, Google advertising (including AdSense) and related measurement tools. See Google's privacy policy.
- Clickio: consent management and advertising services that help fund the Site.
- Meta (Facebook): the Meta pixel, used to measure and support advertising. See Meta's privacy policy.
- Google reCAPTCHA: used to protect forms from spam and abuse.
- Affiliate networks: some outbound links are affiliate links (for example through the eBay Partner Network), which may set cookies to track referrals so we can be credited for a sale.
These providers act as separate controllers or as our processors depending on the service. Please review their own privacy notices for details of how they use data.
8. How we share your data
We do not sell your personal data. We may share it with:
- service providers who host, run or support the Site, acting on our instructions;
- the advertising and analytics partners described above, in line with your consent;
- authorities or advisers where we are required to by law, or to protect our rights; and
- a buyer or successor if the business is sold or reorganised, subject to this policy.
9. International transfers
Some of our providers are based outside the UK. Where personal data is transferred abroad, we rely on appropriate safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses, so your data stays protected.
10. How long we keep your data
We keep personal data only for as long as we need it for the purposes set out in this policy, or for as long as the law requires. Seller account data is kept while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards. Enquiry data is kept for as long as needed to deal with your query and our records.
11. Keeping your data secure
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No online service can be guaranteed completely secure, but we work to keep your data safe and review our measures regularly.
12. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- be informed about how we use your data;
- access a copy of your data;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data erased in certain circumstances;
- restrict or object to processing;
- data portability; and
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@ex-display.co.uk or through our contact page. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, though we would ask you to contact us first so we can try to help.
13. Links to other websites
The Site links out to third-party seller and retailer websites. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices. When you follow a link and leave the Site, that website's own privacy policy applies, so please read it.
14. Children's privacy
The Site is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will remove it.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes to the Site, our practices or the law. The current version is always the one published on this page, with the "Last updated" date shown above. Please check back so you are aware of any changes.
16. Contact us
For any questions about this privacy policy or your personal data, contact us at support@ex-display.co.uk or through our contact page.
